Effective July 1, 2024, 6A-4.0051 requires anyone holding Educational Leadership and\/or School Principal subject areas to include\u00a020 hours of Florida\u2019s educational leadership standards<\/b>\u00a0in-service points as a part of the required 120 points. This impacts those with professional certificates expiring June 30, 2025, and after.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

ELITE: Educational Leadership Internships to Excellence<\/h3><\/div>
<\/span><\/div><\/div>[vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”2\/3″][vc_column_text]A collaborative Educational Leadership Master\u2019s Cohort Program in partnership with Florida Atlantic University. ELITE Program Candidates are nominated by Principals to be accepted into the program. Program classes are taught by SLPS Leadership and internships are provided that offer real-life school-based experiences.<\/p>\n

Participation in this academy is REQUIRED to interview for the Assistant Principal Pool in spring of 2026. If a similar program was completed in another county, participation in this academy would be waived.<\/p>\n

Applying for the Assistant Principal Pool<\/h3><\/div>
<\/span><\/div><\/div>[vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”2\/3″][vc_column_text css=””]To be eligible to apply for an Assistant Principal position, applicants must hold an advanced degree in Educational Leadership or Educational Administration from an accredited university, have earned a passing score on the Florida Educational Leadership Exam (FELE), successfully completed the Aspiring Assistant Principal Academy, and hold a certification of Educational Leadership K-12 from the State of Florida.<\/p>\n

Once you meet the above requirements, potential candidates must apply for the Assistant Principal (General) position posted in the FastTrack<\/a> application system.<\/p>\n

Next Steps will be:<\/p>\n

* Applications will be screened<\/p>\n

* Selected applicants will be invited to participate in a task-assessment<\/p>\n

* Based upon success with the task-assessment, applicants will be scheduled to interview with district leadership<\/p>\n

* Applicants that pass the task-assessment and interview process will be placed in the Assistant Principal Pool of qualified candidates for any open Assistant Principal positions<\/p>\n

When Assistant Principal positions become available, Principals will select qualified candidates from the Assistant Principal pool for consideration to fill these positions.<\/p>\n

Out of District\/State Candidates will need to provide with their application evidence that they have completed a program that is equivalent in nature to the Aspiring Assistant Principal Academy. Assistant Principal Induction Support Program<\/h4><\/div>
<\/span><\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text css=””]When you are first hired as an Assistant Principal, you will be provided as a support system a mentor that will be assigned from a like school.<\/p>\n

Newly hired Assistant Principals will also be assigned to a collaborative cohort that will meet periodically. Preparing New Principal Academy (School Principal Certification)<\/h3><\/div>
<\/span><\/div><\/div>[vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text css=””]The Preparing New Principal Academy\u2019s goal is to provide leadership training to meet the requirements to earn the Florida School Principal Certification and to prepare candidates for a principal position with St. Lucie Public Schools. Participation in this academy is a required component to be eligible for a Florida School Principal Certificate.<\/p>\n

The Academy includes an opportunity for a shadowing experience and other job-embedded professional learning.<\/p>\n

The academy consists of a mentorship, face-to-face and on-line learning sessions. Each participant must attend all the sessions and complete all the related assignments to be given the opportunity to interview and present to senior leadership for the recommendation for a School Principal Certification.<\/p>\n

Candidates applying for the Preparing New Principal Academy must have the following:<\/p>\n

  • Applicants must have completed 3 years of Candidates must have completed 3 full years as an Assistant Principal with Effective or Highly Effective evaluation<\/li>\n
  • Provide a completed application and essay<\/li>\n
  • Have a signed agreement from your current principal indicating an intent to provide support and mentorship throughout the course of the program<\/li>\n
